Scriptures About Your Heavenly Father

In the Bible, your Inner Mess is called "the flesh." I use the terms "flesh" and "inner mess" interchangeably. I the Bible uses the adjective form "carnal" from the same Greek root (sarx). Here are some key verses about your Inner Mess. You can use these for your own studies. I've used the New King James Version of the Bible.

Scriptures About Your Inner Mess

  • For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Romans 8:6, NKJV).
  • Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. (Romans 8:7, NKJV).
  • So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:8, NKJV).
  • Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (Romans 8:12, 13, NKJV).
  • But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Romans 13:14, NKJV).
  • And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:1, NKJV).
  • for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? (1 Corinthians 3:3, NKJV).

  • I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, (Galatians 5:16, 17, 19, NKJV).
  • And those who are Christs have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (Galatians 5:24, NKJV).
  • among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. (Ephesians 2:3, NKJV).

  • and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, (2 Peter 2:10, NKJV).
  • For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. (2 Peter 2:18, NKJV).

The book you are holding in your hands is a realistic, down to earth examination of our "Inner Mess" and the remedy God has for our "unwanted" trash." In these pages, my friend Bill Giovannetti, holds up a mirror to show us who we are on the inside and how we can apply Scripture to our inner world. You will not only want to read this book, but pass it along to a friend. The truth can't be told more clearly than this!
